This Is Us: Why Randall and Miguel’s Special Bond Makes Total Sense

NBC’s This Is Us is all about relationships, and finally Randall and Miguel’s stable bond is highlighted in the final season of the series.This Is Us is all about family relationships and the complicated feelings and tensions that can spring up in a family over time. The Pearson family at the series’ core is a strong unit, but they’ve also suffered some tragedies. It’s not all been sad though, their family has been able to grow and expand over time, welcoming new people to the mix along the way. Randall and Miguel seem to have a special relationship that is unmatched by the relationship Miguel has with Kate or Kevin. Randall is the only one of his siblings who is adopted, and over the course of the series he is repeatedly shown to be the odd man out in the relationship between Kate and Kevin. Despite them being The Big Three and having an undeniably lovely and powerful bond, Randall sometimes does struggle with being the adopted one in the group. Miguel is Rebecca’s second husband and falls into the step-father role. While that makes him a part of the family, there are times when he can also be the odd man out in family dynamics. Feeling out of step is part of what makes Randall and Miguel work together.
